    Posted: 17 Dec 2016 at 6:54am

For Dr Debug  codes which is the code that matters is it the final code displayed  or is it any code that is displayed during the process?

The final code is 99 ( stays on 99) which indicates PCI-E,  I have no PCI-E components installed.  Additionally the motherboard is currently outside the case.

CPU is I7 6700K
16 GB Corsair Vengeance Ram  (CMU16GX4M2C3000C15)
Cooler Master Heatsink

I had issue with a previous board which I spent several hours troubleshooting before getting an RMA/replacement.

Thanks for any assistance

MJ

The final code as it will cycle during POST and then come back to display what's at issue.

Hmmm,,,,,, Was it RMA'd for the same code 99 ?  Knowing that answer will lead a diagnoses either left or right in making a call.

The original board was RMA'd with the same code (99).

I currently have the board outside the case  and have been through the following troubleshooting steps.

Re-seated CPU, heatsink, ram
only peripherals are keyboard and mouse
using onboard video during troubleshooting process

Yea. Then I can with 99.99% certainty say it's one of the other components/parts that you did not RMA that is causing your 99 error to rear its head again.

That only leaves the CPU and memory;  Is there any way to check either without ordering  new ones?

Lets focus on your CMU16GX4M2C3000C15 kit as I believe your issues lie with them.

Corsair doesn't show this kit in their Compatibility Listings:
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/memory-finder

Soooo..... First things first. Contact Corsair and inquire if this kit is or isn't compatible with the Z170 Pro Gaming i7.

Please post back when they reply.

That's a new model of Corsair RGB memory, but likely based upon an existing model. The general specs say it is X99 and 100 series compatible.

Assuming you have the Fatal1ty Z170 Professional Gaming i7.

Since you have 8GB DIMMs, try putting them in the A1 an A2 slots. Then clear the UEFI/BIOS with the board's jumper, and try again.

EDIT: That should be the A1 and B1 slots, sorry about that!!

Yes I have the Fatal1ty Z170 Profession Gaming i7 board.   I tried all of the memory slots with both and individually still get the 99.   I ordered new memory using the memory finder  on the Corsair site which lists  (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) for the Fatal1ty Z170 Professional gaming i7 motherboard.

I received the new memory  (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15)  based on CORASIR website , installed  and received the same 99 code.  I have tried single memory and both as well as cleared CMOS still get the 99.

Still  testing outside case  with built in video

So the setup is still CPU, memory, heatsink and  new SATA hard drive.    Have tried with/without hard drive

Do you know if you received a different board than the one you sent back for the RMA?

When you reseated the CPU, did you check the CPU socket for bent pins?

Is there any way you can try reducing the pressure your CPU cooler is putting on the CPU? Too much pressure from a CPU cooler can cause the pins in the socket to move off the "lands", or contact points on the bottom of the CPU. That can result in weird problems like yours.

Are you using the Intel or ASMedia SATA ports for your drive?
