Hello, My system was running fine, but I wanted to update the BIOS in case it included any fix for the Meltdown security issue.  I formatted the USB and added the 3.70 update, rebooted into BIOS and did the Instant Flash.  It reported a success and then rebooted.  After it started powering up there was nothing displayed on screen.  Just solid black.  After about a minute it shuts off.  There are no beeps or anything else I can tell.  If I reboot it just happens again.  I tried the steps to reset the CMOS and waited with the battery unplugged and the Jumper set for 10 minutes, but it still didn't work.

Any other ideas?  I've opened a support case with ASRock but since it's Friday I'm not expecting anything back for awhile.

Thanks

They will get back to you as soon as they can. Assuming you followed the support tips and formatted the flash drive in FAT32, did you use the backpanel USB ports off motherboard or ones on the computer case ? Have you tried to go into BIOS (F2) ?

I have similar results with x99 Extreme 3 bios 3.60 and Xeon E5 2699v4.  The upgrade completed, reboots.  Black screen the powers down.  Had to use 2nd bios to recover.

I had used the front USB ports with a FAT32 formatted drive.  I didn't see anything in the technical process that said rear ports were preferred, so that's why I just used the ones on the front.  I did try rebooting and pressing different function keys, but the screen stays black without any response (no tones) and it eventually shuts back off.

I did find that the BIOS chip can be ordered off eBay, so I'm going to try that, but it's taking like a month to ship.  I haven't heard anything back from ASRock yet except the confirmation email on Friday, and am disappointed they don't have a phone support option.  But I hope they have a quicker option.

I did also try putting the original 1.10 BIOS on a USB and see if it would boot off that even without a display, but it didn't seem to work either. Any other thoughts what can be done in the meantime?

Thanks
