    Posted: 31 Jul 2026 at 10:23am
I have an ASRock X470 Master SLI/as with a 7 2700 cpu and BIOS 3.4. I want to replace this cpu with a 7 5800XT and I know I need to update the BIOS with the 7 2700 installed first. Can I jump straight to BIOS 10.08 or newer without having to use a bridge BIOS version? If not, what steps do I need to take? Thanks.

Using instant flash from within the UEFI (BIOS) you typically don't need to worry
about what versions are needed or update order. The UEFI won't let you update to
a version that requires another version first. When it scans your USB flash drive
it will simply show no viable updates available if the version you have on the
drive is incompatible.

I typically download the latest BIOS, unzip it onto a fat32 formatted USB drive
then go to instant flash in the BIOS. If it lets me update I continue with updating,
if not, I go and download whatever version is needed (almost always listed as
a "bridge BIOS").

In your case I don't see any bridge BIOS versions listed.

Make sure to load factory defaults and reboot the system before updating to
ensure a smooth update.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in responding. Updating the bios went as planned and I?™m happy to say that everything is running smoothly. I appreciate your assistance. I didn?™t think that there was a bridge bios that I had to use(I couldn?™t find one on the website), but I wanted to make absolutely sure. I was getting some conflicting results in my Internet searches. Thanks again.

I'm on X470 master SLI with bios version 1.40, about to upgrade from 2600X to 5600G. Does the step is exactly same£
Some said that I have to go 1.90 first then few bios versions until 4.40, then I can jump to 10.60. But other said otherwise, which makes me confused

Thanks in advance!

1.90 isn't a bridge BIOS so shouldn't be necessary. So yes, the same steps should
work just fine for you too. Good luck with the upgrade

Thanks for the advice!
I thought the 1.90 is necessary since 3.20 up to 3.40 suggested it.

Just to anticipate in case bios update failure, any methode to flash the bios without external tools£

Unfortunately no, BIOS flashback only became a more common feature with the 500
series. The update will typically list a previous version if it needs it. In other
cases there may be "bridge" BIOS version/s that are required but these will always
have "Bridge BIOS" in the description and are always x.00 BIOS versions. As with
the OP, all you need is the latest version.

So long as you take all the usual precautions, reset to defaults and reboot before
updating, you should be just fine barring power outages/external factors that
interrupt the update.

If the update fails for any reason you can always check your local tech stores/
service centers and see if they could reflash it for you with an external tool.
The tool is very affordable however and can be purchased off places like AliExpress
or Amazon etc for likely less than the labor charge from a store. Failures are
very rare however and usually result from mistakes made during the process like
powering off the system (intentionally or accidentally). I have also always been
paranoid about updates but, touch wood, in almost 30 years I have never had a flash
fail.

Good luck, let me know how it goes
