Check out this sticky, while technically not supported many people have had success
with a fresh installation (not an upgrade which fails at the hardware check phase). https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=19692&title=windows-11-installation-compatibility |

Thanks Zalter,
Mine doesn't have TPM installed, so, now I'm looking for advice about replacing my Z90 Pro4 MOBO. Where do I ask for advice? |

I doubt you'll get the old 4th gen cpu on W11. From my understanding W11 requires secure boot and that started with 6th Gen Intel cpus.
But I'll def keep following as I just built an 11th gen (11700-i7) and I'm having a hard time prepping it for W11. Can't disable the CSM in the bios. |

Hi Auggybendoggy,
Thank you. What I need now is a recommendation for a 6th Gen CPU that will require the least number of other new components for my PC. MOBO: ASRock Z97 Pro4 (BIOS P2.60 3/7/18) Processor: i7-4790K 4.1 - 4.4 GHz, cores, 8MB Cache (Model: BX80646I74790K) CPU Cooling: Intel Heatsink Fan Thermal Controlled Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400MHz C11, 1.65v Power Supply: Ultra 600 3X ULT40073 GeForce GTX 1660 Super, 6GB, GDDR6 Monitors: One 30??Dell and two 19" ACER monitors Samsung SSD 970 Plus, 500GB, M.2 NVMe (C: boot drive) Samsung SSD 850 Pro, 256GB D: OCZ Vertex 256GB Samsung SSD 250 T5 Portable, USB3.1 External Thunderbolt 3 Ethernet switch: Netgear 5-port gigabit (for security cameras) Router: TP-Link AX6000 WiFi Windows 10 Pro X64 Modem: SMC Networks D3CM1604 Modem (DOCSIS 3.0, 16x4 Channel Bonding) Spectrum: 400 MB High Speed |

At the very least you would need:
CPU RAM Motherboard In other words it makes no difference what you decide to go with, those 3 key components will be needed regardless. The problem is Z97 uses DDR3, everything newer uses DDR4 and now, intel's newly launched platform uses DDR5. I would stay clear of the new intel 12th gen parts for the time being as it is a new platform and is bound to be buggy for a while yet while the software catches up to the new architecture. However, take a look at this article: https://www.pcworld.com/article/545941/you-shouldnt-buy-a-tpm-for-windows-11-heres-why.html I guess the sticky I linked was not clear enough. People have successfully performed clean installs of Windows 11 even on Z87 boards provided they have enabled PTT and followed the steps in the sticky I linked above. You can try a clean install of Win 11 on a separate drive and see if it works for you using the instructions in the sticky and article. |
