    Posted: 15 May 2017 at 12:14am
Hello there! I just built my very first PC. I have a x370 taichi motherboard updated to bios ver. 2.30, ryzen 7 1700cpu cooled by the led wraith stock cooler and 16gb ddr4 3600mhz corsair vengeance lpx ram. I'm a complete noob at overclocking so I decided to do a slight overclock especially since I am on the stock cooler. The thing is even though I go above 3.0ghz, on the "about" section on windows it still says that my cpu is running at 3.0. On Cinebench is the same thing and the benchmark results dont change even though I overclock it. On the BIOS it also says 3.0 but when I go to OC tweaker it still has the settings I changed... I dont know what Im doing wrong since O have seen many people overclock on the same mobo without any problems. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe you can post a pic of your settings so we can see what you are using and let you know what might be set incorrectly?

Hello. I was about to write and update saying tjat I was able to overclock. I think the problem was with the ram that was on the xmp profile. When I changed that to auto I had no issues overclocking.

and a very easy to follow overclocking guide spoken in english and not pc geek-ish

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52Tw-wcT7o4

i have the same board and same cpu as you
and instantly clocked it to 3.9 ghz at only 1.3 volts

EDIT

IN P STATES (your see him explain the pstates in video)
i have
9c equals 3900 mhtz
27 equals 1.306 volts
on main advanced screen
i have
cpu LLC set level 2

Is that on the stock cooler? I don't know if people can get to 3900 on the stock cooler, on my Corsair H110i AIO I can reach 3.9 at 1.29 volts.

I had seen that video and that was one of the reasons I did not understand what was happening because I had followed the basic overclock steps he mentions. I just hadnt noticed that the Ram speed was at 3200mhz. When I lowered it I was able to overclock without problems. I successfuly clocked to 3.8 but the temps were too high. On 3.7 the temps were lower but too high still. I have it on 3.6 on stock voltages with 2900+mhz ram and on aida 64 stress test temps stayed between 70-72. I still need to check stability on prime95.

(in case your wondering)
the ram i run is
gskill trident
f4-3200c15d-16gtz (its the trident 2x8gb kit with samsung b dies)
myself and another person on overclockers have this exact same ram
and both systems have ran it from all bios versions at correct speed simply by clicking the xmp

BE WARNED the f4-3200c16d-16gtz kit is NOT  the same it dosnt use the samsung b dies, results will not be as easy (so if you or any future reader wants to try this ram do not try to save $20 with the cheaper c16 kits)
