So will an m.2 NMVe SSD card will work faster using a PCIe x16 adapter plugging it into a PCIe x16 - faster than placing installing the card into the m.2 slot of the 990 FX Extrem6 motherboard? I just purchased a brand new Extreme6 board that was sitting in a warehouse all these years.

Hi! Excuse me for bumping this rather old thread. I just purchased a brand new 990FX Extreme6 motherboard that was locked up in a warehouse all these years. It's brand new. I was very pleased to find out it has an m.2 SSD card slot. However, from what I can understand here, an m.2 SSD NVMe card (EVO 970) will work faster on this motherboard using a PCIe x16 adapter to plug it into a PCIe x16 slot - than it will if it is actually connected to it's m.2 slot on the board.Do I understand you correctly?

And the word from Toshiba /OCZ....
" thanks for your reply.
We do not sell the PCIe adaptor cards separately.
You can order a RD400A with adaptor card or you can buy any of the adaptor cards available at various reseller.
Kind Regards,

Well..yea its 5$ cheaper but 6$ shipping makes the hippo actually cheaper 0.o.....
So....ASRock basically repeated what Parsec and you said as far as it working no problem just at the reduced speed due to the Gen2
"The Speed will be limited due to mainboard?™s M.2 slot is Gen2x2 due to 990FX chipset limitation. "
Based on what Parsec had said i wont worry much about the card only being **Compatible with ASUS boards Intel chipsets**either...unless he pops in and says otherwise)

NewEgg needs to stop posting 3rd party Sellers products.  Their damn site now looks the same as Sears and Walmarts websites.

Below is the part from NewEgg, not hippo schmippo whoever. And $5.00 cheaper.

Aye agreed, just curious if the difference between the two is huge or negligible and what AiC cards he may have used ,aside from the Toshiba/OCZ one he mentioned using, that i am still trying to find seperately Cry
