I don't need a review to tell me this. Check my OP threads and you'll see why. |

One does have to wonder if there is 350/370 chip-set issues also. I would go with EVGA due to past experience but they are not in the game. I have been running the 1060 6gb ssc in my old system and it's doing great.

Seeing the defect rate across the board I went for a deal on an MSI B350 Tomahawk. On sale for $78 and a $20 off rebate on top of that. I was tempted to go with a nicer board but not with the current defect rate that seems to be 20% new and increasing in the following 3 months. At $60 I can buy another when it comes time to rma the first at least I hope.

I know exactly how you feel, believe me. I blew nearly 2k EUR on this Ryzen build alone.
I knew there would be issues here and there but it looks like AMD rushed it too quick, and ASRock left their summer trainees do the job on this generation of AM4 boards... For crying out loud, I was initially aiming for the X399 Taichi but check how many people here having issues with a platform where the CPU alone is $1000! I'm surely glad I didn't go all-guns-blazing when I was buying last-gen AMD stuff, as much as I love team RED. |

The more I look now that I know what to look for it looks like all the Ryzen stuff is just a gamble.......

Will do.
Thanks for the info. It helped with my decision. This looked like the right board but clearly is not.

Been there, done that! I know it sucks but sometimes that's the only choice.
Ironically, my Linux builds are on Intel machines. Crunching, gaming and productivity - on AMD. I wish I had better Linux experience with AMD, but I know one thing for sure - the Taichi is currently a mess regarding IOMMU groupings. Lots of patching and manual work is needed to make it work right. P.S. let us know how it went from here for you. We'd love a happy-ending tale! Edited by zlobster - 28 Dec 2017 at 7:20am |

Guess I will do a return on this board.
I wanted the small form factor mostly, but i can do a larger system. Cost is always a consideration but there is no value in a system that does not work. Return label printed now for packing. Close call I had almost given my EVGA 780i system away this weekend and the family member did not come over so its still here. Wish I felt like there was a good option almost seems like all the motherboards have there pitfalls with linux.

Do you insist on mATX or B350M? Is budget a problem?
For me, a good Linux board is one with good IOMMU groupings and many slots/connectors. ASUS Prime B350M-E appears to be a decent 60EUR performer. Oddly enough, the ASRock AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac is very praised and I've never seen it mentioned here, which should be a good sign. I'm afraid that whatever we do we can't fix the dreaded USB errors you're getting. |
