    Posted: 15 Dec 2017 at 4:19am
Hi all.

I bought me a FM2A88M Pro3+ motherboard for use in a FreeNas (FreeBSD) server. (private use, replacing some WD-single-disk NAS systems)

Using a AMD A6-6400K CPU and 16 GB RAM. (and 4 WD-RED's, using ZFS, not build-in RAID)

This machine has run for several weeks without any problem. (a secondary system, same specs still running)

After a update from FreeNas, the system needed to reboot and never came up again.

No video (VGA and VGA via a HDMI-dongle) and no sound (PC-speaker).
The fans are running, the numlock/capslock LED's on the keyboard are working, the LAN-led's are active and thats it.

To eliminate the CPU's internal GPU failure, i replaced the CPU with an (older) A4-5300, but no result. Restarting the mainbord without ram, i get 3 beeps. (as expected)

Is there anything else i can do myself before return it to the supplier?

Did you try to SSH to it?

There is no harddisk activity, so there is no operating system running.

- Power on (fans running) (main switch on the powersupply)
- HDD-led flickering (as in recognised by the UEFI/BIOS)
- LAN-led's lighing up
- doing nothing?

The mainboard does not getting any IP address, so to answer your question: There is no SSH connection.

Forgot to mention in the first post:
The UEFI/BIOS is cleared (jumper) and also left alone wihout power and without batery overnight. So all settings should be 'empty'.

Bake some Ubuntu live USB and boot from it. See if problem is still there.

If Ubuntu boots OK, it should pick an IP via DHCP by default, depending on your home network settings. You could check in your router if there is ARP entries for this machine, and if it has any IP or connectivity.

Oh, I forgot... Debians have SSH disabled by default for some time now. IDK about other distros.

The FreeNAS is running again (other motherboard MSI A78M-E45 V2).

Put an (old) Radeon HD4870 videocard in the system and......

Tada! Video! (UEFI/BIOS)

If i use the setting in the UEFI to use only the internal videocard, there is no video.

Connected a 2nd screen to the mainboard, and nothing on it.
Installed Windows 7 on the machine and the system sees 2 seperate videocards.

Only the screen attached to the on-board video card does not give any video signal and monitor is recognized.

I think that the mainboard is indeed faulty Angry.
Grrrr.

Update & funfact:

The motherboard is replaced (via reseller) by Asrock Europe on 29-12. Big thumbs up!

Funfact:
The 2 motherboards i bought had 'matching' serial numbers (ending with 2546 & 2548)
The replacement serial number ends with 2547.

Well, is it working now or not?

Given how sought after your particular mobo model is, it's not a surprise your retailer didn't move many units, hence the similar serial numbers.

The motherbords are coming directly from the importer/wholesale. (Asrock Europe)

The retailer orders them from them. (therefore they have 2-3 days shipping time).

And it is all working.

2 FreeNas servers, next to each other (mirror) with only one digit difference in the serial number.

Love it!  //NERD mode

The original 2:

The '48' is replaced by '47'.
